Surat | Gujarat — In a decisive push toward technology-driven law enforcement, Surat City Police has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to integrate artificial intelligence and drone technology into daily policing. The announcement came during the two-day Surat Police Conference 2026, attended by over 200 senior officers, constables, PSIs and ACPs.

Held under the broader vision outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the DG Conference and guided by Gujarat’s police leadership, the event marked a strategic shift toward predictive and tech-enabled policing in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.

Addressing the gathering, Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut said crime patterns are evolving rapidly in the digital age. “With changing times, methods of crime are also changing. To meet these new challenges, Surat Police will now make maximum use of artificial intelligence and drone technology,” he stated.

He explained that AI tools will be deployed to analyze crime data and predict potential criminal activity, while drones will strengthen surveillance in crowded areas and sensitive zones. “Technology will make our response faster, more precise and preventive rather than reactive,” he added.

Over the two days, the department is holding in-depth discussions and presentations on 10 core subjects. These include curbing online fraud and economic offences, maintaining round-the-clock surveillance on history sheeters, strengthening community policing and addressing Surat’s growing traffic congestion.

Traffic management remains a critical focus area. With Surat witnessing rapid urban expansion and rising vehicle density, officials are expected to finalize a targeted action plan for busy junctions and commercial hubs. “Solving day-to-day public issues and ensuring smoother traffic flow will be key priorities,” a senior officer said.

Cybercrime has also emerged as a pressing concern. The conference is formulating new strategies to combat digital fraud, financial scams and organized online networks. A dedicated action plan is expected after deliberations conclude.

Preparations for the conference were underway for the past 15 days, with DCPs, ACPs and Police Inspectors preparing data-backed presentations. After collective discussions, a unified action blueprint will be drafted to ensure consistent implementation across all zones.

Officials believe the Surat Police Conference 2026 will mark a turning point in making policing more proactive, data-driven and citizen-centric. “Our goal is clear — safer streets, smarter policing and stronger public trust,” Commissioner Gahlaut emphasized.
