Surat Police Parades Notorious Loan Shark

Surat : The Surat police paraded a loan shark identified as Dharmendra alias Lali, who created terror in Udhana area  by offering loans at extremely high or illegal interest rates on Wednesday. Lali, who was handcuffed, was paraded in the Udhana area by the Udhana police to end his terror among the general public. 

The Surat police broke into his lavish office in Udhana and seized a huge amount of incriminating documents related to properties and loans given to the gullible people. Sources said that the police had to literally break the lock of the main gate and that the accused was presented for his face recognition to open the face-lock at the main door. 

After grabbing 6.83 lakhs against the 2 lakhs he had given on interest to Althan’s land-broker, Lali demanded another Rs. 3 lakh from him. Not only that, he wrote a cheque of Rs. 15 lakh and threatened to file a false case in the court if he did not pay the money. Lali also threatened the land broker with dire consequences. 

An investigation was conducted by the police on the seized documents found from his office.  The police have got information that the accused Lali has also made wealth worth crores of rupees through his illegal loan business. The investigation of this asset will soon be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Sources said that the accused owns a lavish farm house worth crores of rupees and owns more than 10 high-breed horses. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhagirath Gadhvi said that Dharmendra had a license for moneylending, which he was misusing to convert rupees at higher interest rates.  As per rule only one and a half percent interest can be charged, but accused Dharmendra used to charge 12 to 15 percent interest. Details of his assets will be reported to the concerned department.
