Surat | Gujarat — Over 70 diamond workers were trapped when a major fire broke out at Riza gems, a diamond manufacturing company located in the Kapodara area in the diamond city of Surat on late Monday night. However, all the diamond workers were rescued by the fire fighters who reached the spot immediately after they were given information on the fire incident. 

The diamond factory was in operation and the fire incident had created an atmosphere of fear among the diamond workers. The third and fourth floors of the five-storey diamond company were engulfed in fire.

Fire tenders from five fire stations in Surat rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation of the diamond workers. After more than one hour of continuous operation, the fire was brought under control. 

According to the information received, a diamond company named Riza Gems is located on Varachha Main Road in front of Karmanath Mahadev Temple in Kapodra area of ​​Surat. Diamond cutting and polishing was done in the ground plus five-storey building. It was reported in the fire control at night that there was a fire in Riza James Diamond Company. Due to which vehicles from Ashwinikumar, Mota Varachha, Sarthana, Pune and Kapodra fire stations were rushed to the spot.

Fire was reported due to a short circuit on the third floor.

Sub Fire Officer Sudhir Gadhvi had said that when the fire convoy reached the spot, it was reported that the fire had started due to a short circuit on the third floor. The plywood partitions built inside the third floor caught fire. The fire had spread to the fourth floor. As many as six diamond workers trapped in the fire were rescued. More than 70 gem artists who had rushed to save themselves on the fifth floor of the diamond company were trapped.

Fire department personnel immediately brought the fire under control and started rescuing the diamond worker.  All the diamond workers were rescued after controlling the flames that had reached the staircase. The fire department was forced to control the eyes by wearing an oxygen mask. The wiring including the plywood coating inside the factory was burnt. Due to the heavy smoke, fire brigade personnel also faced problems.

It took more than two hours for the fire brigade to control the fire.. In the fire incident, the furniture and wiring on the third and fourth floors were burnt to ashes. Along with this, all the diamond who were rescued were safe. There was a fire safety facility inside the building. However, it could not be used because the wiring was damaged.
