SURAT: One of Surat’s leading private healthcare institutions, Kiran Hospital, has landed in fresh controversy after the death of a nine-month-old baby girl triggered serious allegations of medical negligence. The grieving family has accused doctors and nursing staff of fatal lapses during treatment, leading to a dramatic protest inside the hospital and a police investigation.
The deceased, Krishna Chaudhary, daughter of Miteshbhai and Kirtika Chaudhary of Katargam’s Khodiyar Krupa Society, was admitted to the hospital on July 11 after her health deteriorated. According to the family, the infant had undergone a valve surgery and was recovering well until an incident during treatment allegedly changed everything.
The family claims the baby’s condition suddenly worsened immediately after a needle inserted in her neck was removed by a member of the nursing staff. Despite emergency efforts by hospital personnel, Krishna died shortly afterwards.
“My daughter was recovering after the surgery. A nurse removed the needle from her neck, and within minutes her condition became critical. She never recovered,” alleged Kirtika Miteshbhai Chaudhary, the baby’s mother, while breaking down before the media.
She further claimed that the procedure was not carried out by the operating doctor or a senior medical professional, raising serious questions about the standard of care provided.
The baby’s death shattered the family, whose first child was widely described as the centre of their lives. Angry relatives gathered inside the hospital, accusing the management of gross negligence and demanding that the surgeon who treated the child appear before them. The protest created tense scenes within the hospital premises.
Following the unrest, Katargam police reached the hospital and brought the situation under control. Police officials said an inquiry has been initiated into the allegations.
“The operating doctor is currently out of Surat. He will be questioned after his return. Further action will be taken based on the medical records, expert opinion and the findings of the investigation,” a police official said.
Kiran Hospital has not yet issued an official statement responding to the allegations.
