Surat | Gujarat — Panic gripped the Gaurav Path Road area of Adajan-Pal village on Tuesday afternoon after a sudden fire broke out in a Mahindra Thar car parked inside the service workshop of the Mahindra showroom. The blaze, which could have led to a catastrophic situation, was brought under control by the fire brigade, preventing extensive damage to newly delivered vehicles and averting a major tragedy.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted unexpectedly inside the service section of the showroom. Within minutes, thick smoke and flames engulfed the Thar car, sparking fear among employees and customers present at the scene. Workshop staff made initial attempts to douse the fire, but the intensity was too high, forcing them to alert the fire department.
Deputy Fire Officer S.D. Dhobi, who led the firefighting operation, said,“Had the fire spread further inside the workshop, the damage could have been unimaginable. Several brand-new cars, booked for delivery on the occasion of Dussehra, were lined up in the showroom. Thankfully, the fire was contained before it could reach them.”
The fire brigade team rushed to the spot with water tenders and brought the situation under control within minutes. Their quick action ensured that the blaze did not spread to the main showroom or to other vehicles parked nearby. However, one Thar car was completely gutted in the incident.
Customers and locals gathered outside the showroom as news of the fire spread, creating traffic congestion on the busy Gaurav Path Road stretch. “It was a terrifying sight. Black smoke started billowing from the workshop, and we feared an explosion,” said Ramesh Patel, a passerby who witnessed the incident.
The fire department has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Preliminary reports suggest an electrical short circuit or overheating within the vehicle could be the reason, but confirmation is still awaited.
