Ghosts of the Granite Hills: A Visual Journey Through Jawai’s Wildlife Ecosystem

New Delhi [India], March 24: Authored by Kairav Engineer of Astral Limited, “Ghosts of the Granite Hills” is a 396-page compendium exhibiting the unique ecological and social dynamics of the Jawai Bundh region in Rajasthan, India. This visually striking photobook is published by Safari Crafters in collaboration with the New Delhi-based publishing house, Binder Photobooks.

The premise of Ghosts of the Granite Hills explores the complex, yet harmonious ecosystem shared by the region’s human inhabitants and its local wildlife. The book brings to light the daily realities and environmental challenges in and around Jawai, focusing on the unique intermingling of man and wildlife in the vicinity.

Through its images, the book highlights a profound sense of shared belonging. It illustrates how leopards and other beings navigate ancient rock formations, with humans adjusting to cohabit peacefully despite the inherent challenges of such close proximity.

This is Kairav’s third photobook making rounds around the globe, following his previous works including “Ranthambore” Edition I, and “50 Iconic years of Ranthambore”. The publishing of “Ghosts of the Granite Hills” was a collaborative effort bringing together experts on photography, design, and storytelling.

The book’s visual narrative relies primarily on photography, featuring works by: Kairav Engineer, Santosh Saligram, Gaurav Ramnarayanan, Yashwant Singh Ranawat, and Jashwant Singh Ranawat.

The layout and concept for the book were jointly developed by Santosh Saligram and Shubhojit Chatterjee. To further complement the photographic elements, the publication features original illustrations by Sudarshan Shaw of Studio Kyaari.

The limited production of 2,000 special edition books was brought to fruition by Binder Photobooks, a specialist publisher known for its focus on high-quality, artisanal photobooks.

The hardbound edition is printed on recycled coated matte paper imported from Italy. This reflects the publisher’s commitment to fine-art printing standards, seamlessly translating the collaborative vision of the Rajasthani landscape into a tactile reading experience.
