Surat Athletes Set to Shine at 16th World Championship of Yoga Sports in Malaysia

Surat, Gujarat : In a proud moment for Surat, 10 talented athletes from the city have been selected to represent India at the 16th World Championship of Yoga Sports, scheduled to take place at Limkokwin University in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, on April 4-5, 2025.

For the first time, such a large number of players from Surat have secured spots in different age categories, showcasing the city’s growing prominence in yoga sports. The athletes, competing in sub-junior, junior, senior, masters, and veterans categories, are eager to make their mark on the international stage.

The Indian team, led by President Divya Dawn, will depart soon to participate in this prestigious championship. The selected athletes from Surat include Angel Patel, Sarthak Joshi, Esha Shah, Karan Joshi, Devasya Patel, and Harsh Patel in the sub-junior, junior, and senior categories. Additionally, Mayuri Mewawala, Pinky Thakkar, and Chetna Kansagra will compete in the masters and veterans divisions.

Expressing his pride, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) President Vijay Mewawala said, “It is a matter of great honor for Surat that 10 of our athletes will play for India in this global competition. Their selection reflects the dedication and talent of our city’s yoga practitioners. We extend our best wishes to the team.”

The championship is expected to witness intense competition as athletes from across the world demonstrate their flexibility, endurance, and mastery of yoga postures. With increasing international recognition of yoga as a sport, Surat’s players are set to gain valuable exposure and experience on the global platform.
