Surat | Gujarat — The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in the diamond city of Surat has made history by establishing Gujarat’s first state-of-the-art ‘elevated market’. Gujarat’s largest and most modern elevated market with about 108 hi-tech shops will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on December 13.
Sources said that majority of the APMCs across the state are located on the ground floor, but Surat is the first city, where a modern vegetable market has been constructed and it is located on the first floor. A huge ramp has been constructed to allow the transport trucks loaded with vegetables and fruits to directly unload their goods on the first floor at their dedicated shops.
The biggest feature of this market is its design. Special ramps have been prepared here like an airport. In the traditional market, a lot of time was wasted in loading and unloading goods and there was a traffic problem. But, a 100 feet wide ramp has been built in this new elevated market. Due to which heavy vehicles like trucks and tempos can go directly in front of the shop on the first floor. Due to this facility, farmers and traders can unload their goods right in front of the shop. Due to which both labor and time are saved. This type of infrastructure will create a new niche in India’s agricultural market sector.
Heavy vehicles like trucks and tempos can directly access shops on the first floor.
A total of 108 big shops have been built in this elevated market. Keeping in mind the convenience of traders, a big godown and two offices are also arranged in every shop. Not only this, enough free space has been kept outside the shop to store the goods. So that there is no hindrance in the selling and selling process.
Workers and farmers will get free hospital treatment facilities
Surat APMC has also provided an excellent example of humanity. Keeping in mind the health of thousands of workers working in the market and farmers bringing goods. Medical facilities have been set up here. There is a system of completely free treatment for the workers here, so that the poor workers can get even the smallest amount of money. Do not have to bear the financial burden due to illness.
Business tie-up with 15 states and turnover of Rs 3700 crore
Surat APMC is not limited to Gujarat alone. Traders from more than 15 different states of the country come here to sell their vegetables and fruits. Due to this interstate trade, Surat has become a big trading hub. An estimated 15,000 farmers, traders and traders visit here every day. Talking about income, Surat APMC ranks first in the entire state of Gujarat, with an annual soaring turnover of Rs 3700 crore, this market has made a major contribution to the state economy. Is staying.
CNG from spoiled vegetables and garbage
This market is also not behind in environmental protection. It is natural to generate a lot of waste in the vegetable market, but a Biogas plant has been set up to extract gas from the vegetable and fruit wastes. By putting spoiled vegetables and garbage in this plant, CNG gas is made from it, which is green. This is a strong step towards energy.
Surat APMC Chairman and MLA Sandeep Desai expressed pride about the project, he said, “Surat APMC market is the largest in Gujarat. It is a market with turnover. Now this has become the first market in the state which is elevated. APMC is located on the first floor and it is equipped with facilities like a 100 feet ramp. We are also providing medical health facilities to the farmers and traders. Traders from 15 states of the country do business here. With its approach, this elevated market of Surat is becoming a model across the country.
