Surat : A 21-year-old resident of Jai Ambe Nagar in Bhestan, Surat died in mysterious  circumstances following the consumption of toddy juice.

Ambadas Suresh Patil,21, returned home on Monday evening only to collapse outside his house, rendering him unconscious. His family, alarmed by the situation, called for emergency medical aid, prompting the dispatch of a 108 ambulance to rush him to New Civil Hospital.

Despite efforts, medical professionals on duty at the hospital confirmed his passing and revealed that Patil had consumed toddy juice, linking it to his unfortunate condition.

The exact cause of Patil’s death remains a subject of investigation, pending the forthcoming postmortem report. Hailing from Maharashtra, Patil resided in Jai Ambe Nagar with his family, surviving alongside his parents and three sisters. He contributed to the family’s finances through various odd jobs.

Reports indicate that Patil had returned home around 8 pm after drinking toddy, raising suspicions that the consumption of possibly adulterated toddy juice could have led to his tragic demise.

Authorities have highlighted the prevalence of toddy juice as a favored beverage among youngsters due to its easy availability in the peripheral regions of Surat. The juice is extracted from Tad or Palm trees, but concerns have arisen regarding sellers who might be employing hazardous chemical substances to convert it into an alcoholic drink, raising safety issues for consumers.

Police investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Patil’s death and to determine if the consumption of adulterated toddy juice played a role in the tragic incident.
