Banaskantha, Gujarat – In a bold and proactive move to enhance civilian safety near the India-Pakistan border, the Gujarat government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has installed a cutting-edge siren alert system across all 122 villages in the Vav and Suigam talukas of Banaskantha district.

This strategic initiative comes amidst heightened tensions and increasing security concerns in border regions. It marks a significant step towards modernizing civil defense infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of residents in high-risk zones.

“Every second counts in an emergency,” said Banaskantha District Collector Mihir Patel, under whose supervision the installation has been completed. “That’s why this siren system—covering a radius of 3.5 kilometers—is a critical tool. We’ve already covered 43 villages in Vav and 79 in Suigam, including Gram Panchayats, schools, dairies, and police stations.”

The siren system is designed to immediately alert residents of potential threats, whether natural disasters or security-related incidents, allowing them to take timely precautions such as dimming lights and relocating to safe zones.

Suigam Provincial Officer Dr. Arvind Kumar Prajapati emphasized its practical impact: “We have conducted mock drills and training sessions so villagers are well-prepared. The sirens ensure a rapid response mechanism, helping citizens act swiftly during emergencies.”

Voices from the Ground:

Residents of Dudhasan and Boru villages, situated close to the international border, have expressed overwhelming support for the initiative.“My village is right near the border,” said Goswami Gautampuri of Dudhasan. “Now, whenever the siren sounds, we immediately know to shut off our lights and stay alert. It’s a powerful step taken by the government for our safety.”

Thakor Rakshisbhai, also from Dudhasan, added, “Earlier, rumors spread fear in our village. Now with the siren system, we feel more secure.”

In Boru village, Jagdishbhai recalled how the system helped reduce panic: “Amid social media rumors during recent tensions, the siren gave us a clear signal to take cover. It’s a lifesaver.”

The state government plans to install sirens with even greater range (up to 8 kilometers) at taluka headquarters, ensuring widespread coverage and preparedness.

This move follows a series of measures taken by the Gujarat government to secure border regions—not just through infrastructure but also by investing in awareness, training, and technology.
