Surat, Gujarat – In a significant step towards supporting education and utilizing public assets wisely, Sachin Industrial Co.Op. Society Ltd. and Sachin Notified Authority have donated two unused buses to GIDC Degree Engineering College in Abrama, Navsari. These buses, originally purchased in 2019–20 for industrial workers’ transport, will now serve a new purpose — ferrying students between Surat and the college, easing their travel and supporting timely attendance.

The two buses, worth a combined ₹55 lakh, were purchased using funds collected from 2,250 industrial plot holders in the Sachin Notified Area. Their initial intent was to provide affordable transportation for workers commuting from Sachin Railway Station to various GIDC units. However, the plan couldn’t be effectively implemented due to logistical challenges, rendering the buses unused and idle for nearly five years on Road No. 8 of the Notified Area.

Recognizing the wasted value and maintenance burden of the vehicles, the Notified Board unanimously decided to repair and repurpose the buses to benefit the students of GIDC Degree Engineering College. This initiative not only prevents the waste of public funds but also addresses a crucial problem faced by many students — long, uncoordinated travel hours between Surat and the college, which was impacting their academic performance.

“We felt it was our responsibility to ensure that the tax money of 2,250 industrial plot holders is put to good use. Donating these buses to serve students is both a practical and noble solution,” said Mitul Mehta, Chairman of the Sachin Notified Authority.

The handover ceremony took place in the presence of several dignitaries including Divisional Manager Divijay Gangar, Superintendent Engineer Devendra Sagar, Deputy Executive Engineer Harishbhai Damor, Notified Chief Officer Priyakant Menat, Sachin Industrial Co.Op. Society President Nilesh Gami, Secretary Mayur Golwala, and members Kishorebhai Patel, Bhikhubhai Nakrani, Vasant Lakhani, and Gaurang Chapatwala. The buses were formally worshipped and symbolically handed over to the college principal.

“For our students, this means timely arrivals, reduced travel stress, and improved focus on studies. We’re grateful for this much-needed support,” said the college principal during the event.
