Rs.21 Cr Water Tank Collapse: Gujarat Govt Suspends Two Engineers, Blacklists Contractors

Gandhinagar | Gujarat —The Gujarat government has suspended two officials of the public works department (PWD) with immediate effect after the water tank built under the water supply scheme in Tadkeshwar village in Mandvi, Surat collapsed even before its inauguration.

The incident occurred on Monday where three workers were injured during the testing of the tank. Lakhs of liters of water flowed out of this tank, creating a situation as if the village was flooded. The state government has taken immediate action in this incident. The government has taken action against the officials. After this incident, the deputy executive engineer Jay Chaudhary and executive engineer Rajnikant Chaudhary have been suspended, while two agencies namely Jayanti Super construction and Babulal Ambalal Patel have been blacklisted in Gujarat. 

Official sources said that the payments of the contract agency have been stopped. Notices have also been given to the contractor and project management consultant. Samples have been taken from the scene in the presence of officials. Now the process of departmental investigation and police complaint has also been initiated. A police complaint will be filed against the responsible persons.

MLA Kunwarji Halpati said that two officials have been suspended immediately. Engineers Jay Chaudhary and Rajnikant Chaudhary have been suspended. Two agencies have been blacklisted in Gujarat. Jayanti Super Construction and Babulal Ambalal Patel have been blacklisted. 14 villages were to get water from this tank.

The overhead water tank was built at a whopping cost of Rs 21 crore in Tadkeshwar village, which is the home of cows in Kamrej taluka of Surat. The tank was built, but when water was filled for the trial, it automatically collapsed.

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi has also posted on X and attacked the BJP government on this issue.
