Relief from the Scorch! Sudden Dust Storms and Rain Lash parts in Gujarat
Ahmedabad witnessed dust storms and drizzles, while other parts of Gujarat witnessed a period of heavier rainfall earlier today
AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT : Residents in Gujarat, who have been sweltering under the relentless heat with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, received a much-needed respite this evening as the weather took a dramatic turn. Strong winds and sandstorms swept through few districts around 5:30 pm, transforming the clear sky into a hazy expanse filled with dust. The winds, reaching speeds of around 40 km/hr, brought a welcome change, followed by a drop in temperature and a burst of rain.
Ahmedabad witnessed dust storms and drizzles, while other parts of Gujarat witnessed a period of heavier rainfall earlier today. Districts like Botad, Navsari, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, and Dangs received rainfall between 2 pm and 4 pm, with Botad recording the highest amount at 20mm.
The sudden change in weather can be attributed to the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD predicted light thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching up to 40 km/hr, accompanied by light to moderate rain, in several districts across Gujarat. These districts include Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, and many more. The IMD expects these conditions to persist for the next three hours.
While the extent of the rainfall in Ahmedabad was limited, the strong winds and dust storms offered a temporary escape from the scorching heat. The sudden downpour in other parts of Gujarat may bring much-needed relief to drought-prone areas, but may cause worries for the mango farmers.
