Ahmedabad, Gujarat  : As part of a major organizational overhaul ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Gujarat and spearhead the Congress’s new initiative for political resurgence in the state. On April 15, Gandhi will hold an orientation meeting with 43 AICC observers, 7 co-observers, and a team of Gujarat Congress observers at the party’s state office in Ahmedabad. This meeting aims to lay the groundwork for the Congress’s ambitious campaign to reclaim political ground in the state and prepare its cadre for the battles ahead.

Following this preparatory session, Rahul Gandhi will launch the party’s “organization creation campaign” from Modasa on April 16. As part of this campaign, a pilot project will be inaugurated in Modasa, which will also include a dialogue with grassroots workers. The two-day itinerary was originally centered around Modasa alone, but the revised plan now includes a high-level meeting in Ahmedabad before the public outreach in Modasa.

The Congress party has been vocal about its intention to challenge the BJP’s dominance in Gujarat by 2027. In line with this, steps are already underway to implement the resolutions passed during the party’s national convention held in the state earlier. One key decision is to empower district Congress presidents significantly. To facilitate this, the party has appointed AICC and Pradesh Congress Committee leaders as observers for the selection of 41 district presidents across Gujarat. Each of the 43 groups tasked with this selection will include an AICC observer as the convener, supported by four PCC observers.

Only seasoned and credible leaders have been selected to serve as in-charges. The selection criteria include PAC committee members, current and former MLAs and MPs, district and municipal Congress presidents, leaders from district panchayats and municipal corporations, and department heads from SC, ST, OBC, and Minority cells of the GPCC.

In total, Congress has deployed 50 AICC leaders and 183 Pradesh Congress Committee leaders for this vital exercise. The party’s strategic move, backed by Rahul Gandhi’s direct involvement, signals a serious bid to re-establish its grassroots presence and regain the trust of voters in Gujarat.
