Punjab Kings (PBKS) produced a historic batting display as half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer powered them to the highest successful run chase in IPL history. PBKS defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in a high-scoring thriller.
Chasing a massive target of 265, Punjab Kings completed the chase with seven balls remaining, showcasing fearless and aggressive batting throughout. The victory was built on a blazing start in the powerplay, where Prabhsimran Singh smashed 76 off just 26 balls, including nine fours and five sixes, while Priyansh Arya contributed a rapid 43 off 17 deliveries. The opening stand yielded 116 runs inside the powerplay.
Despite a brief comeback from Delhi Capitals through Kuldeep Yadav, who picked crucial wickets in the middle overs, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer held the innings together with a calm and unbeaten 71 off 36 balls, featuring three fours and six sixes. He was supported by Shashank Singh (19 not out) as Punjab Kings comfortably crossed the finish line.
Delhi Capitals had earlier posted a huge total of 264/2, driven by KL Rahul’s sensational unbeaten 152, the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. Nitish Rana also played a key role with 91 runs, but the effort eventually went in vain.
PBKS began the chase aggressively, with Priyansh Arya hitting the first ball of the innings for a six. Prabhsimran quickly joined in the attack, capitalizing on loose deliveries and fielding errors. The pair dominated the opening overs, with Prabhsimran reaching his fifty in just 18 balls.
The momentum briefly shifted when DC pacer Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury while attempting a catch and had to be stretchered off the field in an ambulance, causing a short stoppage in play.
Once the game resumed, PBKS continued their aggressive approach. Arya and Prabhsimran combined for multiple boundaries, while Kuldeep Yadav struck twice to remove Prabhsimran and Cooper Connolly, giving Delhi Capitals a brief opening.
However, Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with composure, surviving dropped chances and accelerating at the right moments. He brought up his fifty off 26 balls and ensured there were no further hiccups in the chase.
In the end, Iyer and Shashank Singh guided Punjab Kings home with clinical finishing, sealing a record-breaking win and maintaining their strong form in IPL 2026.
