Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Taking a firm step toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of reducing obesity nationwide, the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has launched a dedicated “Dietician OPD” under the Obesity-Free Gujarat campaign initiated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Located in Room No. G-025 of the hospital’s 1200-bed facility, the OPD is now operational every day from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This free service offers expert nutritional counseling and customized diet plans to help reduce obesity and improve overall health.
According to Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, “This initiative empowers citizens with the right knowledge about diet and lifestyle. Fighting obesity is crucial to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes and hypertension.”
The Dietician OPD will cater to a wide range of individuals including NCD patients, malnourished children, and pregnant and lactating women. Expert dieticians will guide them on balanced diets, BMI (Body Mass Index) management, and ways to maintain long-term wellness.
Speaking on the occasion, Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said, “We are proud to be part of the state’s goal to create a healthier society. Proper nutrition guidance is the foundation for preventing lifestyle diseases. This Dietician OPD is an important step in that direction.”
This move aligns with the state’s broader objective to tackle NCDs through awareness, education, and prevention. The Obesity-Free Gujarat campaign has already initiated multiple programs to promote healthier eating habits and regular physical activity, especially among vulnerable populations.
NCDs such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are major health concerns in Gujarat, mirroring a growing global trend. Experts believe that early intervention through dietary counseling can prevent complications and reduce healthcare costs significantly.
Residents of Ahmedabad and nearby areas can access this service completely free of charge. For personalized diet plans and expert guidance, individuals are encouraged to visit Room G-025 at the 1200 NED Hospital, Civil Hospital campus.
