Ahmedabad | Gujarat — An accused, who was imprisoned in a Nepal jail in connection with a drug case and escaped from the jail during the Gen Z protests, was nabbed by the Ahmedabad crime branch police from the Kagdapith area in Ahmedabad.
The accused identified as Dharmesh Chunara, originally from Ahmedabad, was caught at the Nepal airport during the smuggling of ganja from Bangkok and was then imprisoned in Nepal jail. During the Gen Z movement, when local youths broke out of the Nepal jail, Dharmesh also escaped and came to Ahmedabad. Based on the information that Dharmesh, who lives in the Kagdapith area, was hiding in the house of his mother-in-law, who is a listed bootlegger, the crime branch sleuths raided the house and nabbed the accused.
The arrested accused Dharmesh had reached Nepal from Bangkok last year with 13 kg of hybrid ganja. But Dharmesh was caught by the agency at the Nepal airport. Dharmesh was kept in a Nepal jail. Not a single crime has been registered against Dharmesh in Ahmedabad, but he was bringing hybrid ganja from Nepal to India, which is being investigated.
After the Gen Z movement, the Nepalese agency gave the Indian agency the names and details of several Indian accused who had escaped by breaking the jail. Among these accused, there were two accused from Gujarat, including Dharmesh from Ahmedabad and another accused from Surat. The police have arrested Dharmesh. Dharmesh will be handed over to the central agency, after which the agency will investigate and hand him over to Nepal.
