Bengaluru : Rock music is awesome because it features pounding drums, resonating guitar strings, and a mesmerising keyboard. The real magic, however, occurs when classical and rock styles collide and when Western and Indian influences mingle. That’s a marriage made in heaven. If you can picture yourself swaying to the sounds of a drum and Indian Classical melodies, then you should definitely check out this band.

The Bengaluru-based band was formerly known as the Motor Wade, but they recently changed their name to better reflect the Indian Classical influences present in their music. In addition, the audience is enthusiastic. In fact, they polled their fans to find a moniker that fits their sound and resonates with their audience. As a result, they have officially changed their name to The Himalayan Sky- on services like Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube.

The members of the band share the enthusiasm for the new moniker. “Himalayan was a keyword that came out strongly,” Rakesh, the band’s vocalist, said about the decision to use that word. Their guitarist Santosh elaborated, “We have been playing all kinds of music, but there is an Indian vibe to our music. That’s why we decided to change our name.

A new single, “Rakt Vinaash Kali,” was also announced alongside the band’s new moniker. This is a truly unique song that addresses the shortcomings of the human race. The song is an homage to Maa Kali, who is blamed for everything from rising crime rates to climate change. Guitarist Bhavneet explains, “The song is a prayer to Maa Kali where we ask her to take an Avatar and destroy the universe filled with our mistakes.” This song depicts the current state of humanity and our collective desire for redemption.

If you feel too worked up to attend their concert, you are definitely missing something, but now you can stream their music online as well on platforms like Spotify, iTunes and YouTube with their new avatar, “The Himalayan Sky”. Don’t worry; you can soon flaunt their merchandise and check all the latest happenings and events around the country through their new website, www.himalayansky.in, as told to us by Ashwini, drummer of the band.

The Himalayan Sky is creating magic by amalgamating Rock and Indian Classical, playing songs that are real, raw and stirring. It’s a group worth following and listening to; maybe they can touch a chord with you too. Rock On, guys!!
