Apple’s upcoming macOS 27 update could mark one of the most significant turning points in Mac history, with reports suggesting Apple is preparing major AI-driven improvements while continuing its transition away from Intel-powered Macs.

According to recent industry leaks and reports, macOS 27 may introduce Apple’s most advanced Siri experience yet, alongside deeper AI integration across the operating system and further refinements to the company’s evolving “Liquid Glass” design language.

The update is also rumored to significantly reduce — or potentially end — support for Intel-based Macs, signaling Apple’s final steps toward a fully Apple Silicon ecosystem.

Apple’s transition away from Intel began in 2020 with the introduction of its custom M-series chips. Since then, Apple Silicon has rapidly become the backbone of the Mac lineup, offering major improvements in performance, battery life, thermal efficiency, and on-device AI processing. macOS 27 could now become the clearest indication yet that Intel-era Macs are nearing the end of official software support.

The timing aligns with Apple’s broader AI ambitions. Intel-powered Macs have already been left out of several Apple Intelligence features launched on newer devices. By focusing entirely on Apple Silicon, Apple would gain greater flexibility to optimize macOS for machine learning, AI-assisted workflows, and advanced hardware acceleration.

Siri Expected to Receive Major AI Enhancements

One of the most anticipated features in macOS 27 is a dramatically upgraded Siri experience. Reports suggest Apple is developing a smarter assistant capable of more natural conversations, improved contextual understanding, and deeper integration across apps and system functions.

The company is also expected to expand AI-powered productivity tools throughout macOS. Features such as intelligent writing assistance, text summarization, enhanced search capabilities, and proactive recommendations could become more deeply integrated into everyday workflows.

Meanwhile, Apple may continue refining its controversial “Liquid Glass” interface design. The visual style focuses on translucent layers, reflective elements, and fluid animations throughout the operating system. While some users praise its futuristic appearance, others argue that the emphasis on aesthetics can impact usability and readability.

Intel Mac Users Could Face Difficult Decisions

For millions of users still relying on Intel-powered MacBooks and desktop Macs, potential compatibility changes may become the biggest concern surrounding macOS 27.

Intel Macs remain widely used across businesses, educational institutions, and creative industries. A major reduction in software support could push many users toward hardware upgrades sooner than expected.

At the same time, phasing out Intel compatibility would simplify software development for both Apple and third-party developers by eliminating the need to support multiple processor architectures.

The rumored changes reflect Apple’s long-term strategy of building a tightly integrated ecosystem around its custom silicon platform. With AI becoming central to the future of computing, macOS 27 could represent the beginning of a new chapter for the Mac — one designed entirely around Apple’s own hardware and artificial intelligence ambitions.
