Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is currently undergoing medical examinations at a city hospital after sustaining a serious head injury during an IPL 2026 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The results of the tests are still awaited.
Sources at the venue informed IANS on Saturday that Ngidi is being treated at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Karol Bagh. “Various tests are still being conducted on injured Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi. Reports are still awaited. He was unconscious when he was taken off the field in an ambulance,” the source said.
The incident occurred during the IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium when Ngidi attempted a catch off Priyansh Arya in the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase. Arya had attempted to loft Axar Patel over mid-off, and Ngidi ran backward from his position but misjudged the ball’s trajectory and fell heavily.
In the fall, he struck the back of his head on the ground and remained in visible pain for an extended period. Players and officials immediately signaled for medical assistance as the DC physio and team doctor rushed onto the field. Play was suspended for around 15 minutes.
A stretcher was brought in as the stadium atmosphere turned tense. Ngidi’s teammates David Miller and Tristan Stubbs appeared visibly concerned, while DC head coach Hemang Badani instructed medical staff to use a neck brace as a precaution.
An ambulance was eventually driven onto the field as doctors, physios, players, and coaching staff surrounded the injured pacer. Although Ngidi managed to communicate with medical personnel through hand gestures, he was unable to move his neck properly.
A neck brace was carefully fitted before he was placed onto a stretcher and transported off the field by ambulance. Ngidi was later substituted out of the match.
