Kimberley Process Delegates Honoured at Bharat Diamond Bourse

Mumbai | Maharashtra — Mumbai rolled out the red carpet for the global diamond fraternity as visiting Kimberley Process (KP) 2026 delegates were welcomed with a ceremonial reception at Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). The visit, part of the KP Intersessional meeting in India, underscored the country’s growing influence in the global diamond ecosystem and its commitment to ethical sourcing and trade.

The delegates were greeted with a grand welcome by the BDB Band before embarking on an exclusive tour of the sprawling facility, widely recognised as the world’s largest functional diamond exchange.

Spotlight on Ethical Diamond Trade

Welcoming the international delegation, BDB Vice President Mehul Shah highlighted the significance of the Kimberley Process in ensuring responsible diamond trade across borders.

“The Kimberley Process has played a crucial role in supporting peace, protecting livelihoods and strengthening legitimate diamond trade globally,” Shah said.

He emphasised the sustainability of natural diamonds and reaffirmed India’s commitment to transparent and ethical sourcing.

Invitation to Mining Nations

During his address, Shah invited mining economies to showcase their rough diamonds at the India Diamond Trading Centre (IDTC), located within the BDB complex.

“A direct bridge between manufacturers and thousands of buyers at BDB will save time and travel costs while helping mining entities secure better prices,” he noted.

The proposal aims to strengthen collaboration between mining countries and India’s massive manufacturing base.

Delegates Impressed by World-Class Infrastructure

Following the welcome ceremony, the delegates toured the high-security trading floors and the IDTC. Visitors were divided into groups led by BDB committee members who explained operations and facilities at every stage.
