Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], January 15:  Kaizen Hospital, Ahmedabad, successfully hosted KaizenCon 2026, a landmark National Conference on Advanced Surgical Innovation, bringing together leading surgeons, academicians, and healthcare thought leaders from over 40 cities across India. The conference emerged as a powerful platform for clinical excellence, knowledge exchange, and technological advancement in surgery, with the launch of “Dr Sanjiv Haribhakti’s Atlas of Robotic GI Surgery (HARGiS) using SSI Mantra” as its defining highlight.

India performs an estimated 3 crore (30 million) surgeries annually across all specialities, yet experts estimate that nearly 5.1 crore (51 million) surgeries are required each year to meet the nation’s growing healthcare needs—highlighting a significant capacity gap. General surgery remains the most dominant speciality, accounting for nearly 26% of all surgical procedures, while robotic GI surgery is rapidly expanding at a CAGR of 18%. In 2022 alone, approximately 2.88 million endoscopy procedures were performed in India, reflecting the rising burden of gastrointestinal disorders and the growing need for advanced, minimally invasive solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sanjiv Haribhakti, Director, Kaizen Hospital, Ahmedabad, and Conference President, said, “KaizenCon 2026 was envisioned as a national movement to bridge technology, skill, and compassion in surgery. The launch of HARGiS represents a step towards creating a standardised, globally accessible learning ecosystem for robotic GI surgery. With indigenous robotic platforms like SSI Mantra, we are advancing surgical precision while making world-class care more affordable and accessible for patients across India and beyond.”

KaizenCon 2026 addressed several critical and contemporary themes, including Adopting Newer Technologies in Surgery, AI for Surgeons: Bridging Innovation and Clinical Practice, Healthcare Communication, Social Media as a Surgical Academy, and Work–Life Balance for Surgeons, underscoring the evolving role of technology, education, and communication in modern healthcare delivery.

A deeply impactful session by Padma Shri Tushar Shukla, titled “મારી નાડ તમારે હાથ: ડૉક્ટર–પેશન્ટ ના સંબંધની કળા”, highlighted the art, empathy, and responsibility involved in nurturing trust within the doctor–patient relationship. Adding a strategic and leadership perspective, Lt. General K.J.S. Dhillon (Retd.), author of Operation Sindoor, delivered a compelling address titled “Surgical Strike: How to Avoid Collateral Damage?”, drawing powerful parallels between military precision and surgical excellence, while sharing leadership lessons from real-world operations.

The launch of HARGiS – Dr. Haribhakti’s Atlas of Robotic GI Surgery marked a major milestone for the Indian and global surgical fraternity. Conceived as a comprehensive and structured learning platform, the Atlas features 55+ chapters and over 65 expertly curated educational videos, offering standardised port placements, step-by-step operative techniques, and high-quality visual guidance. Powered by the indigenous SSI Mantra robotic system, HARGiS aims to democratise advanced robotic GI surgery training globally in a cost-effective, accessible, and standardised manner.

India witnesses millions of gastrointestinal surgical procedures each year, driven by the rising prevalence of colorectal diseases, gallbladder disorders, hernias, GI cancers, and liver conditions. Robotic GI surgery has demonstrated significant benefits, including reduced blood loss, lower postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and fewer complications—resulting in faster recovery and improved quality of life for patients.

With participation from eminent faculty members, senior surgeons, and young practitioners from across the country, KaizenCon 2026 reaffirmed its position as a premier national forum shaping the future of GI surgery in India, emphasising how innovation, education, and ethical patient care can collectively transform surgical practice and healthcare outcomes.
