Rajpipla : Maa Kaamal Nursing College in Rajpipla has come under scrutiny after a 20-year-long controversy over its legitimacy erupted into public protests. Allegations of illegal operations prompted the Narmada district police to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the institution, which has been accused of operating without government recognition.

The Allegations

As per the news report, over the past two decades, hundreds of students have pursued nursing courses at Maa Kaamal Nursing College. However, complaints revealed that the college lacks official approval from the Gujarat government. Students allege that the institution, in collaboration with a college in Bengaluru, has defrauded them by collecting hefty fees and original documents without delivering proper training or valid certifications.

The alleged malpractice includes:

Lack of Affiliation: Students claim they were unaware the college was unrecognized.

Unfulfilled Promises: Despite paying lakhs in fees, students report receiving no coaching, scholarships, or access to valid exams.

Future in Jeopardy: Graduates of the program have found themselves unable to pursue legitimate nursing careers.

This has left over 150 students and their families in turmoil, with many lamenting the loss of three to four critical years of education.

Political Action

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava has taken the lead in exposing the scandal. Vasava organized a dharna (protest) in front of the Narmada Collectorate and Superintendent of Police (SP) offices, demanding justice for the affected students. His demands include:Immediate refund of student fees, Return of original documents, a pathway to valid certifications for impacted students.

Speaking to the media, Vasava emphasized the gravity of the issue: “This bogus institution has robbed students of their money, time, and future. We demand immediate action against those responsible.”

SIT Investigation

Responding to the protests, Narmada SP has ordered a full investigation. A Special Investigation Team will probe the allegations, scrutinizing the college’s financial dealings and the legality of its operations.

Additionally, in-charge Civil Surgeon Dr. Prakash Kothari has confirmed that preliminary investigations point to the nursing college being operated by a fraudulent trust. The SIT will also evaluate ways to compensate affected students.

The Way Forward

Students and parents remain hopeful that the inquiry will bring justice. “We trusted this institution to shape our future. Instead, it has taken away our dreams,” said a student who wished to remain anonymous.
