Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Gandhinagar witnessed a significant administrative development as retired Justice Biren Vaishnav was sworn in as the Lokayukta of Gujarat, marking a key step in strengthening the state’s anti-corruption framework and accountability institutions.
The oath of office was administered by Governor Acharya Devvrat during a formal ceremony held at Lok Bhavan. The event saw the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, senior cabinet ministers, and Chief Secretary M.K. Das, along with top bureaucrats.
Congratulating the newly appointed Lokayukta, the Governor expressed confidence that Justice Vaishnav’s experience and integrity would further reinforce public trust in governance. “The Lokayukta plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability. We are confident the institution will grow stronger under his leadership,” he said.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel described the appointment as an important milestone for good governance. “The state government remains committed to maintaining a transparent administration and ensuring swift redressal of public grievances,” he noted.
The General Administration Department confirmed that Justice Vaishnav’s tenure will be five years from the date he assumes office. Officials highlighted that the appointment strengthens the institutional framework designed to address corruption complaints and uphold administrative accountability.
