New Delhi [India], February 18: A comprehensive three-day training programme on IS/ISO 22000:2018 & IS 15000:2024 was successfully conducted from 21–23 January 2026 at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The session focused on strengthening implementation of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) with reference to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Internal Audit practices.

Three-day advanced session strengthens Food Safety Management System (FSMS), HACCP, and Internal Audit capabilities among faculty and researchers

The training formed part of the Twenty-One Days Advanced Faculty Training Programme on “Functional Dairy Foods: From Concept to Commercialization,” organized from 05 to 25 January 2026 at the Centre of Food Science and Technology under the Institute of Agricultural Sciences. The programme was held under the ICAR-sponsored Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) initiative.

Strengthening Food Safety Frameworks in Academic Institutions

The three-day technical session was led by Mr. Ajay Kumar Bhatnagar, CMD, who delivered structured modules on the requirements of IS/ISO 22000:2018 & IS 15000:2024, focusing on practical implementation of FSMS frameworks within academic, research, and institutional environments.

The sessions provided detailed guidance on:

●Establishing and maintaining a compliant Food Safety Management System (FSMS)

●Applying Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles as per IS 15000:2024

●Conducting systematic Internal Audit processes

●Identifying and managing food safety hazards in dairy and food research settings

●Documentation, monitoring, and continual improvement mechanisms

Participants included faculty members and research scholars from leading universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across India. The academic diversity fostered a collaborative environment conducive to knowledge exchange and professional development.

Practical Orientation with Real-World Application

Unlike conventional theoretical workshops, the training emphasized practical clarity and structured learning. Sessions were supported by worksheets, real-life case illustrations, and interactive discussions designed to help participants translate regulatory standards into operational practices.

The programme highlighted the integration of HACCP methodology within the broader FSMS framework under IS/ISO 22000:2018, enabling participants to understand risk-based thinking and preventive control strategies applicable in pilot plants, laboratories, and dairy processing units.

By focusing on implementation strategies rather than abstract compliance concepts, the training enabled attendees to strengthen food safety governance within their respective institutions.

Positive Participant Response and Measurable Impact

The training received highly positive feedback from participants, with ratings ranging between 9 and 10 out of 10. Attendees acknowledged the clarity of content delivery, structured approach, and relevance of case-based discussions.

Faculty members and research scholars noted that the enhanced understanding of IS/ISO 22000:2018 & IS 15000:2024 will directly support curriculum enrichment, research integrity, and improved food safety practices in academic settings.

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ajay Kumar Bhatnagar said:

“Strengthening food safety competence within academic institutions is essential for building a resilient food ecosystem. By aligning teaching and research practices with IS/ISO 22000:2018 and IS 15000:2024 standards, institutions can bridge the gap between theory and industry expectations. Our objective was to provide participants with practical clarity so they can confidently implement Food Safety Management System frameworks within their environments.”

Advancing Food Safety through ICAR-CAFT Programme

The ICAR-CAFT Programme plays a significant role in capacity building for faculty members across India. Hosting this training at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing applied food science education.

By incorporating standards such as IS/ISO 22000:2018 & IS 15000:2024 into advanced faculty training modules, the programme supports national objectives related to food safety, dairy innovation, and commercialization of functional foods.
