IndiGo to Start Direct Flights from Surat to Diu This Winter

Surat : Travelers in Surat will soon be able to fly directly to the Union Territory of Diu, thanks to IndiGo airlines. The airline has announced that it will start direct flights from Surat to Diu under the UDAN scheme, starting in the winter schedule.

The Diu flights from Surat will connect to Ahmedabad. The flights will operate during all days except for Wednesday due to the runway closure at Ahmedabad airport. The flight time will be around 45 minutes.

This is a long-awaited development for travelers in Surat. Diu is a popular tourist destination, and the direct flights will make it much easier for people from Surat to visit. The current travel options from Surat to Diu are either by road or by train. The road journey takes around 13 hours, while the train journey takes around 10 hours.

The We Work for Working Airport at Surat (WWWAS) office-bearers had been in constant touch with the top authorities at IndiGo airlines for starting the direct air connectivity between Surat and Diu under the UDAN scheme. The Government of India had sanctioned the Surat-Ahmedabad-Diu route to the IndiGo airline under the UDAN scheme.

The UDAN scheme is a government initiative to promote regional connectivity by providing airfare subsidies to airlines. The scheme has been successful in connecting many remote and underserved airports in India.

The introduction of direct flights from Surat to Diu is a major boost for tourism in the region. It is expected to attract more tourists from Surat and other parts of Gujarat to Diu.
