Ahmedabad : The Indian Coast Guard is set to significantly enhance its operational capabilities in Gujarat with the inauguration of new facilities and the laying of the foundation stone for a crucial infrastructure project. The events will be held on March 28th and 29th, with the Defence Secretary serving as the chief guest for both programs.

On March 28th, at 11 am, a ceremony will be held at Arambadha, Okha, to inaugurate the state-of-the-art Hovercraft Maintenance Unit (HMU). This specialized unit will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient maintenance and upkeep of the Coast Guard’s hovercrafts, which are high-speed air-cushioned vehicles used for patrolling, search and rescue, and other critical maritime operations.

Following the HMU inauguration, the same ceremony will see the commencement of construction for a new Indian Coast Guard jetty at Okha. The stone-laying ceremony, also known as Bhoomi Poojan, marks the official beginning of this significant infrastructure project. A dedicated jetty will provide a designated mooring point for Coast Guard vessels, streamlining operations and enhancing response times.

The focus then shifts to Veraval on March 29th, where the Defence Secretary will inaugurate the Operational Team Mess (OTM) and Married Accommodations at the Coast Guard Residential Accommodation (CGRA) located in Enaz. Scheduled for 9 am, this event underscores the importance of improved living and workspaces for Coast Guard personnel stationed in Veraval. The OTM will provide a dedicated space for team meals, fostering camaraderie and communication within operational units.

The construction of these new facilities and the jetty project are a testament to the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to strengthening its presence and capabilities along the Gujarat coast.

The HMU will ensure the operational readiness of hovercrafts, while the jetty will provide crucial logistical support for Coast Guard vessels.  Improved living quarters and dedicated mess facilities in Veraval will further enhance the morale and well-being of Coast Guard personnel, allowing them to perform their duties more effectively.
