Surat : Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWA) has urged the Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh to postpone the implementation of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on textile machinery till March-2027.
FOGWA president Ashok Jirawala and former president of Southern Gujarat Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) Ashish Gujarati met the union minister at New Delhi and submitted a detailed representation on the postponement of BIS on textile machinery.
FOGWA has informed that the main reason for the speed at which the textile industry is currently developing in the entire country is the high-speed and modern technology imported machines from abroad.Such modern technology machines imported from abroad are not yet manufactured by any company in India.
Some local manufacturers have tried to manufacture such machines but they have completely failed. For this reason, the textile industry is highly dependant on the state–of-the-art imported machines from the countries like China, Japan, Europe etc.
“If BIS is implemented on machinery at present, then the development of the textile industry will stop and the industrialists will also have to suffer a lot of losses” said the representation by FOGWA.
“Until our country’s manufacturers succeed in making high-speed and modern technology machines, we have a demand and feeling that BIS should not be implemented on textile machinery” said Ashok Jirawala, president of FOGWA.
“The current export of textiles will also decrease and new employment opportunities will also decrease. Considering the current increase in demand for textiles in the world, it will be difficult to compete with countries like China. Therefore, the Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association is demanding that the implementation of BIS on machinery be postponed until March-2027” said Ashish Gujarati.
