In Surat, patients are treated for Rs 20 at the clinics’ set up by Jain Doctors’ Federation (JDF).

Surat: The next time you visit these clinics, doctors will treat you for just Rs 20. Thanks to the initiative of the city-based Jain Doctors’ Federation (JDF), three such clinics have been made operational in different areas where the patients, irrespective of caste or creed, are given medicines, injections, and diagnoses for a petty charge.

At a time when the medical expenses have become dearer with the increasing cost of medicines and the consultation fees charged by the doctors, the JDF came up with a unique initiative to help the poor and middle-class patients in getting quality treatment at nominal rates.

The JDF has hired general practitioners and other staff to run the clinics. The three such clinics have been made operational within seven months. The first clinic was set up at Katargam in February-21 followed by the second clinic at Pal and the third one was inaugurated on August 17.

The clinics offering quality medical services at an affordable price was the brainchild of JDF president, Dr. Vinesh Shah. Dr. Shah is the medico-legal and embalming expert in the city.

Talking with TBT, Dr. Vinesh Shah said, “Medical services are becoming costly and that the poor and middle-class people are unable to afford due to limited financial resources. However, we thought of offering medical services at affordable prices. We contacted the donors and philanthropists, who readily accepted our idea and chipped in with their donations for setting up the clinics”

Dr. Shah added, “We are offering medical services for just Rs 20. A patient has to spend Rs 20 for the medical consultation by the general practitioner, medicines, and injections. We are giving them everything for an affordable price. Patients all the communities and castes visit these clinics”

According to Shah, the JDF received donations from Dr. Jitu Shah, Milan Parikh, Dr. Shailesh Shah, Dilip Mehta, Bhikabhai Doshi, etc. for setting up the JDF clinics in the city. The JDF’s active committee members include Dr. Darshan Wadekar, Dr. Alpesh Shah, Dr. Vitrag Shah, Dr. Vishal Shah, Dr. Niral Zota, and others.
