Ahmedabad, Gujarat — Honda Company President and CEO  Tsutsumu Otani announced the commencement of the fourth production line of Honda Motorcycle plant at Vithlapur at the program organized by Honda Motorcycle Company at Vithlapur in Ahmedabad district to celebrate the milestone achievement of producing 50 crore units globally and 7 crore units in India in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Otani said that this new production line with a production capacity of 6.50 lakh units will be fully operational by the year 2027. As a result, the Vithalapur plant will become the world’s largest manufacturing plant with a total capacity of 26.10 lakh units. Not only this, this will also create 1800 new jobs. He also said that the company is also working on increasing the carbon neutrality of the organization and on technologies to reduce the number of accidents.

Planned to begin operation in 2027, the new line will have an annual production capacity of 650,000 units, bringing the total capacity of the company’s 4th plant to 2.61 million units, making it Honda’s largest assembly plant for motorcycles in the world.

Honda will be investing approximately 9.2 billion rupees to construct this fourth line capable of producing 650,000 units of 125cc-class motorcycles per year.

Gujarat CM said that two and a half decades ago, there was no discussion about the automobile sector in Gujarat. After Narendrabhai Modi assumed the charge as the Chief Minister in 2001, he developed an ecosystem in the automobile sector like all sectors in the state. This Mandal-Becharaji-Vithlapur area, which once had no potential for development in this area, has today become an automobile hub. At its core is the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister.

Bhupendra Patel said that India has today made a strong partnership in the global economy through the slogan ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ given by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi. The industries of the auto hub of Mandal-Becharaji-Vithlapur are realizing the slogan.

Chief Minister said that along with Gross Domestic Product-GDP, GEP-Gross Empowerment of People based development is necessary, for which the state government is continuously striving. Gujarat today is becoming a hub of emerging sectors like manufacturing, semiconductor and green hydrogen including e-mobility. Due to this, the name of GEP will be surpassed by employment generation and development of other small and big industries.

Stating that Japan has been an important partner in the development of Gujarat since the first series of Vibrant Gujarat Summit, he said that with the commencement of Honda’s fourth plant at Vithlapur, this plant will become the largest automobile plant in the world. This will create about 1800 new jobs. Along with this, this plant will emerge as an important exporter.

Giving information about the journey of the company from its inception till now,  Minoru Kato, Executive Officer of Honda Motorcycles, said that since its inception in the year 1948, Honda Company is currently manufacturing in 23 countries. Since its operation in India since 1984, there are currently four main plants. He said that today the contribution of Indian users is important in achieving the milestone of manufacturing 50 crore motorcycles globally.

As part of its social responsibility, Honda Company also gifted 50 QR motorcycles of CB-350 model to Gujarat Police in the presence of the Chief Minister.
