Surat : HDFC Bank ATMs in Surat have been reportedly infiltrated by stray dogs. Customers seeking to withdraw or deposit money at these ATMs are encountering ferocious dogs sitting inside the ATM chambers.

With the rise in dog bite incidents in Surat city over the past few months, customers, especially those accompanied by children or women, are apprehensive about entering HDFC ATMs, fearing the possibility of being attacked by these dogs.

Dinakar Sharma, an HDFC Bank account holder, recently experienced this distressing situation first-hand. While making a routine visit to the HDFC ATM, he was startled to find two black dogs inside.

Sharma attempted to shoo away the stray dogs, but they did not budge easily. Despite the potential danger, Sharma, who needed to withdraw money urgently to pay his daughter’s school fees, entered the ATM with determination. Interestingly, the dogs remained unperturbed by his presence, as if they were indifferent to human presence in the ATM. Fortunately, Sharma managed to withdraw money unhurt and exit the ATM safely.

Shopkeepers and local residents near the HDFC ATM have shed light on the situation, revealing that the dogs seek refuge inside the ATM due to heavy rains and extreme heat. The ATM’s air-conditioning system, operational round the clock, provides them with a comfortable and cool space to rest. Lacking any security guards, the ATM is left unattended, allowing for the dogs’ frequent entry and occupation.

The infiltration of stray dogs in HDFC Bank ATMs has raised significant concerns among customers and local residents alike. The growing number of dog bite incidents in the city has made people cautious, particularly when accompanied by vulnerable individuals such as children and women. The fear of being bitten or attacked by these dogs prevents many customers from utilizing HDFC ATMs, creating an inconvenience and potentially affecting the bank’s reputation.

“Given the gravity of the situation, customers expect HDFC Bank to address and rectify this issue promptly. The presence of stray dogs inside ATMs poses a safety risk and threatens customer satisfaction” said Darshan Naik, a social activist. “Implementing necessary security measures, such as posting security guards, could help deter the dogs and ensure the safety of customers using the ATM facilities.”
