AHMEDABAD : Technology has emerged as a powerful ally in protecting children in Gujarat. In a remarkable achievement, Gujarat Police traced 42 missing children within just 28 days using advanced cyber tools, CCTV analytics, and digital surveillance under the statewide Operation Surakshit Cyber Space. The month-long campaign showcased how technology-driven policing is transforming investigations and ensuring faster rescue of vulnerable children.

One of the most striking cases involved a Class 7 student from Khambhat in Anand district, who went missing while on her way to school. After the girl’s teacher informed her parents that she had not reached school, the family immediately approached the Khambhat City Police.

Investigators quickly analysed footage from the Vishwas Face-2 CCTV network and used digital surveillance tools to track her movements. Within hours, police located the girl safe along with her bicycle and reunited her with her family.

The rescue highlights the effectiveness of cyber-enabled policing in safeguarding children across the state.

Launched under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Operation Surakshit Cyber Space ran from July 1 to July 28 with the objective of strengthening cybersecurity, improving cybercrime investigations, and enhancing the protection of women and children in the digital space.

Ajay Choudhary, Additional Director General of Police, CID Crime (Women Cell), Gujarat, said, “Under the guidance of Director General of Police G.S. Malik, Gujarat Police launched Operation Surakshit Cyber Space to improve cyber awareness, strengthen preventive measures, crack down on cyber offenders, and enhance cybercrime investigations. During the campaign, 42 missing children were successfully traced using cyber tools and various technological interventions.”

He added that the campaign was implemented by CID Crime and Railways under the guidance of Dr. K.L.N. Rao, Director General of Police, CID Crime and Railways, with active support from police stations across Gujarat.

The operation was conducted in four phases, combining cyber investigations with public awareness campaigns. Police organised outreach programmes, seminars, and social media campaigns to educate citizens about online fraud, cyber hygiene, digital safety, and responsible internet use.
