SURAT : The Gujarat government’s new Industrial Policy-2026 has received a strong welcome from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), with industry leaders describing key provisions as potential game-changers for investment, manufacturing and employment across the region.

SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala thanked Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi for the policy, particularly highlighting three decisions expected to benefit South Gujarat.

“The improvement in the classification of Valod, Vyara and Mangrol talukas will open new doors for industrial development and investment in backward areas,” Jirawala said.

He also welcomed the decision to accord thrust sector status to textiles and apparel, saying Surat’s position as a major textile hub, combined with the developing PM MITRA Park in Navsari, could attract investments in specialty yarns, technical textiles and value-added products.

The third major highlight, he said, was the attractive incentive framework for large, mega and ultra-mega industries, aimed at encouraging substantial investment and employment generation.

SGCCI Vice President Raviraj Desai said the policy’s 16 thrust sectors align strongly with South Gujarat’s existing industrial strengths.

“South Gujarat is already a leader in many of these sectors. This policy will be important for the expansion, diversification and modernisation of industries here,” Desai said.

He pointed to opportunities in chemicals and petrochemicals, heavy engineering, green energy, textile waste recycling and circular manufacturing. Emerging sectors such as mobility, agro-processing, healthcare, semiconductor ancillaries, e-waste recycling and shipping container manufacturing could also benefit.

Former SGCCI President Nikhil Madrasi highlighted the incentive structure, including annual support limits of up to ₹300 crore for large industries, ₹750 crore for mega industries and ₹1,250 crore for ultra-mega industries.

Honorary Minister Paresh Lathia and Treasurer Atul Patel said the policy would also create opportunities for thousands of MSMEs linked to larger industries.

Industry leaders said the policy could strengthen South Gujarat’s competitiveness in textiles, chemicals, engineering, green energy, recycling, manufacturing and exports.
