Gujarat : First Alcohol-Detection Dog Busts liquor in Rajkot
Adrev underwent nine months of rigorous training at the Naroda-based Dog Training School under the guidance of Colonel Chandansinh Rathore, Senior Dog Training Consultant, and State Police Chief Vikas Sahay. The training aimed to equip Adrev with the ability to detect even the faintest traces of alcohol, assisting law enforcement in the fight against illegal liquor storage and distribution.
Rajkot : In a major breakthrough for Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws, the state police have introduced an alcohol-detection dog named Adrev, trained to sniff out concealed liquor. Recently, Adrev played a pivotal role in discovering alcohol stored in a residence in Dhebar Colony, Rajkot, marking the first-ever case of alcohol detection led by a canine in Gujarat.
The success came when Rajkot’s Bhaktinagar police unit took Adrev to Maftiyapara in Dhebar Colony, a known area for past prohibition cases. Once on-site, Adrev quickly alerted his handler to suspicious items within a woman’s home, where he had picked up on the scent of a cold brew. Following the alert, police searched the property and found materials related to alcohol production. The discovery led to an immediate seizure of the items and a registered case against the homeowner.
Adrev’s training enables him to detect alcohol stored in various locations, from hidden compartments in vehicles and homes to outdoor stashes buried underground. His handler, trained to recognize Adrev’s signals—either barking or pawing—can promptly act on his findings, adding a new layer of effectiveness to police efforts against bootlegging.
This initiative represents a significant advancement for the Gujarat Police, who plan to maximize Adrev’s potential across the state. As the first alcohol-detection dog, Adrev is expected to set a precedent for similar canine units in other regions where prohibition laws are enforced. The introduction of alcohol-detection dogs may also serve as a deterrent to those involved in the illegal liquor trade, reinforcing the state’s commitment to upholding its prohibition laws.
Adrev’s success story reflects Gujarat Police’s innovative approach to tackling the challenges of prohibition enforcement.
