Gandhinagar,Gujarat – In a strong display of support for the legal community, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presented a cheque of ₹5 crore to the Bar Council of Gujarat for the welfare of lawyers. The financial aid aims to provide crucial assistance to legal professionals suffering from serious illness or in the event of untimely death.

The amount is part of an annual provision made by the state government in the budget to support the welfare of advocates. During a special ceremony, the Chief Minister handed over the cheque to Bar Council President J.J. Patel in the presence of Law Minister Rushikesh Patel and senior legal department officials.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Bhupendra Patel said, “Lawyers are the backbone of our judicial system. It is our duty to ensure their families receive timely support during critical times.”

Law Minister Rushikesh Patel reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of all professional communities. “The state government stands firmly with legal professionals. This fund is not just financial aid; it is a symbol of care and dignity.”

J.J. Patel expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Chief Minister for continuing the government’s proactive approach. “This support during illness or unfortunate demise shows the state’s deep respect for our community,” he said.

The welfare fund, managed by the Bar Council of Gujarat, offers financial assistance to registered lawyers. As of now, 52,593 lawyers are enrolled as members, and around 3,000 have already received medical aid. Recently, ₹37 lakh was distributed among 27 lawyers for treatment and support.

The cheque handover event was also attended by Law Secretary (In-Charge) Upendra Bhatt, Additional Principal Secretary to the CM Avantika Singh, and other senior officials from the law department.
