Gandhingar, Gujarat – To stand by the families of those who take on some of the most risky jobs in the housing and construction sectors, the then Chief Minister  Narendra Modi introduced Antyeshti Sahay Yojana in 2008. Recognising the hardships faced by these workers, the scheme was launched to provide financial support of ₹2,000 to the families of workers who lost their lives while earning a livelihood. Carrying forward this benevolent vision, Chief Minister  Bhupendra Patel has strengthened the scheme by increasing the assistance amount to ₹10,000, offering relief to grieving families in their most difficult times.

This initiative continues to offer a safety net for those involved in high-risk construction work. In the unfortunate event of a worker’s sudden death, their family receives ₹10,000 in support through this scheme. Over the past 10 years, this support has reached 1,307 labour families, with a total of ₹86.86 lakh disbursed.

Gujarat Government’s Compassionate Stand with Labourers

True to its name, Antyeshti Sahay Yojana reflects the Gujarat Government’s commitment to stand beside construction workers and their families during life’s most difficult moments. When a worker from the housing or construction sector passes away, this scheme provides their grieving family with financial assistance of ₹10,000, offering not just monetary help but a gesture of compassion and solidarity. Implemented by the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, the scheme extends its support to those registered on the state government’s e-Nirman portal. Today, over 12.42 lakh workers are affiliated with the Board, and for them, Antyeshti Sahay Yojana serves as a crucial pillar of comfort and care in times of personal loss.

₹86.86 lakh paid in assistance to 1307 Labour families in the last 10 years

If a construction worker, aged between 18 and 60, passes away during their active membership with the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board or through the e-Nirman portal, their family becomes eligible for financial assistance of ₹10,000 under the Antyeshti Sahay Yojana. To avail of this support, the legal heir must submit an application on the sanman.gujarat.gov.in portal within six months of the worker’s passing. As per the data shared by the Board, from 2015–16 to 2024–25, a total of ₹86.86 lakh has been disbursed to the families of deceased construction workers.

The state government has consistently taken steps to increase this support over the years. When the scheme was introduced in 2008, the assistance amount was ₹2,000. In 2015–16, it was raised to ₹5,000, increased again to ₹7,000 in May 2020, and most recently, in April 2022, it was increased to ₹10,000. As a result of these increases, the financial support extended to grieving families has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting the government’s deepening concern for the welfare of labourer families. Between 2015–16 and 2019–20, ₹30.22 lakh was disbursed under the scheme. From 2020–21 to 2024–25, the amount rose to ₹56.64 lakh, marking a significant increase in the care provided to those left behind.

Antyeshti Sahay Yojana reflects the Gujarat Government’s unwavering support for labourers, offering dignity and solace to their families in times of loss. It stands as a quiet assurance that their sacrifices will never go unseen.
