Gandhinagar | Gujarat —  The suspense that has gripped Gujarat BJP workers for weeks will end  as the party elects its new state president on October 4. The election, being held under the supervision of Bhupendra Yadav, will not only decide the next state president but also elect 29 members to the BJP’s national council.

For the Gujarat BJP, which has had 10 state presidents so far, this will mark the arrival of its 11th president—a leader who will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s strategy for the next assembly polls.

OBC Leader Likely to Get the Baton

The BJP is known for springing surprises by picking unexpected faces. This time too, insiders believe the party may opt for an OBC leader. With Gujarat already led by a Patidar Chief Minister, many party strategists feel balancing caste equations through an OBC president could be a masterstroke.

“BJP has always believed in giving opportunities beyond expectations. The next president will be someone who not only represents a community but can inspire workers across Gujarat,” a senior BJP leader told reporters outside Kamalam, the party’s state headquarters.

Historic Organisational Exercise

The election is part of BJP’s nationwide organisational process, conducted every three years. This time, Gujarat is the 30th state to hold the election, after similar exercises in 29 others. For the first time in the party’s history, this structured process is being implemented across the country.

As many as 292 state council members will vote to elect the president. They will also decide on 29 national council members, who in turn will play a role in electing the party’s national president.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders will all cast their votes today.

Buzz at Kamalam

The atmosphere at Kamalam has been charged for the past several days, with a flurry of meetings and strategy sessions. A pavilion is being set up at the headquarters, where the official announcement is expected. Workers, too, are eagerly awaiting the new leadership.

“There is a lot of curiosity. Whoever takes charge will carry the responsibility of keeping the organization strong and battle-ready for upcoming elections,” said Vijay Joshi, a veteran party worker from Vadodara.

Critical Phase for Gujarat BJP

The timing of this leadership transition is crucial. With Congress and other opposition parties attempting to revive their organizational base in Gujarat, the BJP wants to ensure its grassroots network remains unchallenged.

“The new president will have to channel fresh energy into the cadre. The coming years are decisive, and Gujarat BJP must stay ahead,” said a senior strategist involved in the election process.
