Gone in 60 Seconds: From Cashless Preauthorisation to Discharge Settlement

In a nation marching towards a trillion-dollar digital economy, it remains paradoxical that patients still spend hours awaiting cashless hospitalization approval. While India processes real-time payments and instant digital verifications seamlessly, the healthcare claims process remains trapped in bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Two visionary entrepreneurs, Kshitij Asiwal and Sherwin Kalathuparambil, have confronted this systemic inefficiency head-on. Their refusal to accept the status quo has birthed CAMO, a revolutionary health-fintech platform that reduces claim processing from 3 to 4 hours to just 60 seconds.

“It is not the evaluation that takes time.” explains Kshitij Asiwal, co-founder of CAMO. “It is the waiting to be evaluated that is fundamentally broken.” That delay represents emotional trauma, financial burden, and operational chaos for patients, families, and hospitals alike.

Current industry data reveals alarming systemic failures. Arguably, 50% of patients face delays in hospital discharge due to insurance claim processing extending 8 to 12 hours, even after patients are medically ready to leave. Despite IRDAI’s mandate requiring one-hour approvals for emergency cases, pre-authorization processes still require 24 to 72 hours for planned procedures. Multiple top-tier hospitals have restricted dealings with select insurers due to persistent delays. Family members navigate between insurance desks and billing counters while loved ones await treatment, even when all necessary digital information exists.

CAMO, standing for Cashless Against Medical Occurrence, fundamentally rewires the cashless process through intelligent automation. The platform operates through breakthrough technological advances:

Pre-filled Authorization: Upon patient admission, CAMO electronically populates pre-authorization forms using existing patient and policy data from hospital information systems and clinical records.

Digitized Medical Input: Proposed treatment plans are matched against clinical guidelines through CAMO’s artificial intelligence engine, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Automated Adjudication: “We utilise optical character recognition and machine learning to validate medical necessity, estimate payability, and flag inconsistencies based on sum insured, average ICD-10 costs, and package rates,” explains Asiwal, CAMO co-founder.

API-Based Transmission: Eliminating manual processes, CAMO transmits completed authorizations directly to insurers via secure, encrypted channels.

Pre-Financed Entry: The platform enables pre-approved credit lines for coverage gaps, providing overdraft facilities immediately reinstated once insurer approval is secured.

CAMO’s philosophy revolves around a fundamental question: Why should someone fighting for their life also fight for paperwork?

“The claimant should be with their family, not at the billing counter,” states Sherwin. “With CAMO, there is no deposit, no delay, no distress.”

The platform realigns incentive structures throughout the healthcare ecosystem. Hospitals receive faster payments, insurers obtain structured, technology-verified claims, and patients access seamless care without financial panic.

Their vision impact extends beyond domestic challenges. As IRDAI advances its Insurance Vision by targeting 100% cashless coverage, CAMO provides the technological backbone necessary for this ambitious goal.

CAMO represents more than technology- it embodies commitment to fundamental change. The platform demonstrates what becomes possible when visionary leaders refuse to accept substandard systems. With CAMO, cashless no longer means helpless. It means transformation accomplished in 60 seconds, creating a future where healthcare respects both time and trust. As the platform scales nationwide, CAMO stands ready to redefine global standards for healthcare access.
