AHMEDABAD : The legal history of the Gajera family has come under sharp scrutiny in the ₹1,900 crore Millennium Market fraud case in Surat, with records revealing that 573 cases have been registered against family members in the Gujarat High Court over the past 25 years. Out of these, 232 cases are still pending, highlighting the long-running legal battles involving the family.

The cases include civil disputes, special civil applications, criminal matters, appeals and miscellaneous petitions filed against members of the Gajera family, including Chuni Gajera, Vasant Gajera, Ashok Gajera, Bakul Gajera, Saroj Gajera and Bhavana Gajera.

According to the court records, the highest number of cases have been registered against Chuni Gajera with 75 cases, followed by Vasant Gajera with 72 cases. The disputes have emerged not only from Surat but also from eight different cities and districts across Gujarat.

The legal developments come amid the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings related to the Millennium Market-2 and Millennium Market-4 property dispute. The apex court has extended its order restricting the sale of these properties and directed both parties to maintain the status quo until mediation proceedings are completed.

The Supreme Court had appointed former Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna as mediator to explore an amicable settlement between the parties.

The dispute originated from a complaint filed by Pravin Devkinandan Agarwal, a partner of Shanti Residences Private Limited. Agarwal alleged that his 43% stake in the company was allegedly reduced through forged documents and that company assets were sold below market value, causing a financial loss.

Following the Gujarat High Court’s intervention, Surat Police registered a case under sections including 409, 465, 467, 468, 471, 474, 386, 389, 506(2) and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

During the Supreme Court hearing, senior advocates including Mukul Rohatgi appeared for the petitioners, while Kapil Sibal represented the opposing side.

A breakdown of the legal records shows that among the 573 cases, 311 have been disposed of, while 232 remain pending. The matters include 304 civil and special civil applications, 40 Letter Patent Appeals, 22 criminal miscellaneous applications and several other proceedings.

The controversy surrounding Millennium Market has intensified after allegations of financial irregularities, forged documents and corporate disputes surfaced. The matter continues to remain under judicial review, with the Supreme Court-monitored mediation process expected to determine the next course of action.
