A week after its theatrical release, Ghabadkund continues to be part of conversations within Marathi cinema. Along with its mystery-driven narrative, large-scale production and immersive visual world, the film has also brought the idea of a Marathi cinematic universe into mainstream discussion. Its theatrical performance and growing industry attention have positioned Ghabadkund as one of the notable Marathi releases of the year.

Behind the project is Dr. Rasik Kadam, producer of Ghabadkund and Founder of Icone De Style Pvt. Ltd., who has consistently maintained that the film was conceived as the beginning of a much larger storytelling journey rather than a standalone release.

Reflecting on the film’s response, Dr. Kadam says the success has reinforced his belief that audiences are ready to embrace larger ideas in regional cinema.

“The response to Ghabadkund has been extremely encouraging. More than the numbers, what excites me is that audiences have connected with the world we created. That tells us Marathi cinema is ready for stories that are ambitious in both scale and imagination.”

For Dr. Kadam, the project was never about following trends. Instead, it was about proving that regional cinema can build its own intellectual property while remaining rooted in local culture.

“I’ve always believed that strong stories don’t have to end with one film. Our culture is filled with legends, folklore and characters that deserve larger worlds. Ghabadkund was our first step towards creating a storytelling universe that belongs to Marathi cinema.”

The film’s expansive production design, practical sets and ensemble storytelling were all part of that larger vision.

“Scale should never exist only for visual impact. Every location, every character and every creative decision in Ghabadkund was designed to make audiences feel that this world has a life beyond what they see in one film.”

As the conversation around the film continues, Dr. Kadam believes the responsibility now lies in maintaining consistency rather than simply expanding bigger.

“Building a cinematic universe is not about making sequels. It is about earning the audience’s trust, one story at a time. Every chapter has to stand on its own while contributing to something much larger.”

That journey is already underway. Following the release of Ghabadkund, the team has begun developing the next chapter of the Marathi cinematic universe. Backed by a planned investment of ₹50 crore, the upcoming instalment aims to significantly expand the scale of production, storytelling and technical execution while carrying forward the world introduced in Ghabadkund.

“Our goal isn’t just to make a bigger film. It’s to build a sustainable Marathi franchise that can grow over the years, create opportunities for regional talent and demonstrate that Marathi cinema can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best cinematic universes in the country.”

For Dr. Rasik Kadam, Ghabadkund marks the beginning of a long-term vision. The first film introduced audiences to a new world. The chapters that follow, he believes, will determine how far Marathi cinema can take that journey.
