Surat, Gujarat — A groundbreaking initiative by the Surat Employment Office is set to revolutionize the aspirations of underprivileged youth in Gujarat, offering free foreign language coaching to pave their way to global education and opportunities.

“Now they will not have to face difficulties in interviews to get a visa,” stated an official from the Surat Employment Office, heralding a new era where financial constraints will no longer be a barrier to international dreams. This ambitious pilot project, set to launch in the second week of June, aims to empower hundreds of young individuals with essential English, German, and other foreign language skills, directly addressing a critical need for seven out of every ten aspiring students in Surat.

The stark reality is that while three out of every ten Surat youth manage to pursue education abroad using their own resources, the remaining 70% often face insurmountable financial hurdles. The cost of essential language proficiency coaching, such as IELTS and TOEFL, typically ranges from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 – a sum largely unaffordable for many talented individuals. “More qualified youth want to go abroad, but lack of resources becomes a barrier. Now, talented youth will not miss the opportunity to travel abroad due to coaching,” affirmed an official, highlighting the profound impact this program is expected to have.

The initial phase of this pilot project will focus on three crucial English language courses: IELTS (International English Language Test), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and PTE (Pearson Test of English). These certifications are vital for studies, jobs, and immigration, recognized globally in key destinations like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, and many European countries. The coaching will cover all aspects, from speaking and reading to exam-specific strategies.

The benefits of this initiative are manifold and directly target the core challenges faced by aspiring students. Beyond alleviating the burden of expensive coaching fees, the program aims to:

Facilitate free admission into public universities abroad for eligible students.

Streamline the process of securing overseas employment.

Crucially, “protect youth from fraud by brokers,” a persistent threat in the competitive landscape of overseas education.

The Surat Employment Department and various government institutions will host these courses, ensuring accessibility and reach. The overwhelming response to the initial call for registrations is a testament to the pent-up demand; over 200 individuals from Surat and South Gujarat have already enrolled, with a significant 90% hailing from Surat itself.

This expansion comes on the heels of a highly successful smaller-scale pilot project conducted previously by the Surat Employment Office, which saw 51 youth participate and achieve promising results. The evident interest and positive outcomes from that initial endeavor have paved the way for this larger, more impactful program.

In a further move to support students, the initiative will also provide comprehensive information on government education loans. Students scoring over 60% in their 12th standard examinations can avail loans up to ₹15 lakh at a mere 4% annual interest rate, significantly easing the financial burden of international studies.
