There is a dire need to identify domestic young talent: former Indian cricketer, Deep Dasgupta

Dasgupta Lauds the IPL performances by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer in a video on microblogging platform Koo

Surat: It’s all about promoting young cricketers and getting them to compete internationally, feels the former player and wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta.

In a recent video shared on microblogging platform Koo, Dasgupta is seen applauding the stellar performances by CSK opener Ruturaj  Gaikwad and KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer in the ongoing IPL 2021.

“The takeaway for me from the IPL 2021 season will be the domestic Indian talent and uncapped Indian players like Venkatesh Iyer. I have seen Venkatesh Iyer play for MP and he used to bat similarly. But it didn’t look like he would have such a success in the IPL. Mind you, the IPL level is just below international cricket. So if someone plays so well at this level then you know that he is ready,” says the cricketer-turned-commentator in his Deep Point segment while sharing the video.

Hailing Koo as India’s biggest stadium for cricketing banter, Dasgupta has invited users to express their views on cricket through #IndiaKaSabseBadaStadium.

Dasgupta also emphasized the need for promoting domestic talent, while elucidating how in recent years, the exposure provided by IPL has helped in elevating domestic talent, bringing it on par with the international level.

With just a few weeks to go for the T20 World Cup, Dasgupta also threw light on Team India’s challenges such as the dearth of talented all-rounders.

Dasgupta believes that all-rounders like Venkatesh Iyer, who can bat in the top five as well as ball, can prove highly beneficial for India. “I want to speak more about Venkatesh Iyer because he has a unique ability of bowling too. This has been a problem with Indian cricket from the last 5-7 years that they haven’t been able to find batsmen in the top five who can bowl or bowlers who can bat this way in T20 cricket. So the batting depth is compromised. So players like Venkatesh Iyer who can contribute with a few overs too, need to be looked after.” Said Dasgupta.

In recent weeks, conversations around cricket have gained immense traction on Koo. Cricketers-turned-commentators like Virender Sehwag, Aakash Chopra, Abhinav Mukund, Suhail Chandhok, amongst others, have been increasingly sharing their cricketing wit and action with audiences on the multi-language platform across a slew of languages, especially Hindi.
