Surat : Surat, known as the diamond city of Gujarat, is witnessing an alarming rise in mobile snatching incidents, leaving even elected representatives and their family members vulnerable to the ruthless criminals prowling the city’s streets. The recent shocking incident involved the wife of Congress’ Khedbrahma MLA, Dr. Tushar Chaudhary, whose mobile phone was snatched by two motorcycle-borne criminals. This incident has sparked concerns about the safety of not only prominent individuals but also the common people in Surat.
Dr. Dipti Chaudhary, in her complaint lodged at Umara police station, stated that the incident occurred near Joggers Park, located in Surat’s upscale Ghod Dod Road locality. Seizing the opportune moment, the snatchers swiftly approached her, snatched her mobile phone, and escaped on their two-wheeler. The MLA’s wife wasted no time and promptly registered a case at Umra police station.
Following this distressing incident, a sense of anxiety has gripped the people who frequent Joggers Park, particularly women. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in curbing such brazen crimes. Surat, being the home city of Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, further amplifies the concerns regarding the safety of the common citizens.
Expressing his shock and concern, Dr. Tushar Chaudhary, the MLA from Khedbrahma, emphasized the urgent need for stringent action against such criminals. He pointed out that the incident clearly exposes the vulnerability of the people in Surat, who are falling victim to chain snatchings and mobile thefts in broad daylight without any fear of the police or law enforcement agencies. Dr. Chaudhary’s statement highlights the pressing need for the Gujarat Government to take immediate and effective measures to safeguard its citizens.
The rise in mobile snatching incidents not only threatens the physical well-being of individuals but also undermines public confidence in the safety and security of Surat. This incident serves as a wake-up call for the authorities to prioritize the issue and enhance efforts to combat street crimes.
“The Gujarat Government must allocate additional resources, increase police presence, and implement robust security measures to ensure the safety of residents, including elected representatives and their families” said Darshan Naik, general secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).
The alarming incident involving the MLA’s wife underscores the urgent need for the Gujarat Government to address the prevailing security concerns in Surat. Only through concerted efforts and a proactive approach can the city regain its reputation as a safe place to live, work, and visit, stated Naik.
