Ahmedabad: Tribal farmers in the coastal town of Dahanu in Maharashtra reaped a good harvest this season, that too without spending money for procuring the seeds. Thanks to Jignesh Bari, a small-time seeds grower in Dahanu who got inspired by the Adani Group chairman, Gautam Adani, and donated about 50 kgs of paddy seeds to the tribal farmers’ free-of-cost.
“I was inspired by Gautam Adani’s donation of Rs 60,000 crore to charity to commemorate his 60th birthday and his father Shantilal Adani’s 100th birth anniversary. This is the biggest donation in Indian corporate history. If Gautambhai can donate such much amount of money for the welfare of the people, I decided to donate paddy seeds to the 10 tribal farmers free-of-cost” said Bari, a resident of Dahanu.
Since he was a young boy, Jigneshbhai was fully aware of the impoverished circumstances of Dahanu tribal communities. “People here work hard to make sure that the locals have access to chances for employment, healthcare, and education. Since I was inspired by Gautambhai, I have wanted to contribute in some way. I realized that I couldn’t put off helping the needy until I was wealthy,”
Jigneshbhai said, “I had to start in my tiny way. Inspired by Gautambhai’s generosity, I chose to provide 50 kg of paddy seeds to the poor local tribal households. Additionally, they have been advised on how to maximise the production from the agricultural property.”
The tribal farmers have been able to produce a total of 4,000 kg of paddy with 50 kg of grain donated to them. Their agricultural output, income, and food security have all increased as a result. “I observed the children from the tribe grinning,” he said, “It is the most satisfying and memorable experience of my life.”
Gautam Adani’s donations focus on areas such as healthcare, education, and skill development, which form the foundation of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ but what makes the foundation even stronger is people like Jigneshbhai joining him with all that they have for a greater good cause.
