Ahmedabad, Gujarat : The much-anticipated metro rail service between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is expected to commence operations by mid-July. The final phase of verification for the metro rail tracks and stations has begun, marking the last step before the metro becomes operational for passengers.
A three-day safety inspection, conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, R.K. Mishra, began on Wednesday. This inspection is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of the new metro service. There will be a total of 22 stations along the entire route, and the initial phase covers the route from Motera Narendra Modi Stadium to Sector-1 (Ch-2) Station and from GNLU to Gift City Link.
The safety inspection of Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail started on the Motera to Sector-1 (Ch-2) route on Thursday, with R.K. Mishra personally visiting the stations and evaluating the infrastructure. The safety of the route will be tested at various stages over the three-day inspection period. Any defects found during this time will be documented, and a report will be created. After addressing any issues, a final safety certificate will be issued, allowing the commercial run to commence.
“The completion of the inspection and the subsequent certification will pave the way for the metro rail to be operational by the second or third week of July,” said a spokesperson for the metro project. “We are excited to offer this new mode of transportation to the public and are committed to ensuring its safety and efficiency.”
The metro rail project is seen as a significant milestone in improving urban transportation between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. It aims to provide a faster, safer, and more efficient means of travel for the residents of these two cities. The route is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide a reliable alternative to road transport.
The work on all the stations along this route has been completed, with only some finishing touches remaining. These are expected to be finalized in the coming days, ensuring that the metro stations are fully operational and ready to serve passengers from day one.
The introduction of the metro rail is anticipated to bring numerous benefits, including reduced travel time, decreased pollution, and enhanced connectivity between key areas in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Residents and daily commuters have expressed optimism about the positive impact the metro rail will have on their daily lives.
