Farmers from Surat block NH-8 at Kamrej to support ‘Bharat Bandh’ announced by farmers organisations against contentious farm laws.

Surat: Traffic movement on the National Highway (NH-8) at Kamrej was disrupted after the agitating farmers burnt tyres to support the Bharat Bandh call given by the farmer organizations against the three contentious farm laws on Monday.

About 25 agitating farmers were detained by the Olpaad police including the convenor of the Gujarat Kisan Samanvay Samiti, Jayesh Patel for the protests on the NH-8.

Sources said about 50-60 farmers from Olpaad taluka reached the NH-8 at Kamrej on Monday morning and disrupted the traffic by burning the tyres on the road. The traffic movement remained disrupted for more than an hour. The police force from Kamrej and Olpaad police stations rushed to the spot and cleared the road for smooth traffic movement.

President of Khedut Samaj Surat, Ramesh Patel told TBT, “The farmers in Northern states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, etc. have been running the agitation from the last one year against the contentious farm laws framed by the Central Government. The farmers in South Gujarat and Gujarat are also against the farm laws. We have supported the Bharat Bandh called by the farmer organizations”
