Surat | Gujarat — In a major boost to police welfare and infrastructure, projects worth ₹116 crore were inaugurated and launched in Surat by the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation Ltd. in the presence of Union Minister C. R. Patil and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi. The projects include modern police quarters, a new police station, Marine Task Force housing and key welfare facilities for police families.

The Deputy Chief Minister announced the construction of Class B/192 quarters at Piplod Police Line costing ₹55.53 crore, along with 40 quarters at the Horse Riding School and Library in Rander Police Line costing ₹7.30 crore. A new police station in Bhestan worth ₹5.22 crore and the Assistant Police Commissioner ‘J’ Division office in Hazira were also included. In addition, the foundation stone for residential and non-residential buildings of the Marine Task Force in Surat district worth ₹43 crore was laid, along with a community hall and Kitchener’s Barracks at Lajpore Central Jail.

Addressing the gathering, Sanghvi said the projects will transform the quality of life for police families. “Police housing is not just a facility but a right of our personnel. Libraries, anganwadi facilities and modern amenities will bring confidence and stability to police families,” he said, urging residents to maintain cleanliness and treat the quarters as their own homes.

Highlighting a major policy shift, he announced that Gujarat will build over 20,000 homes for constables’ families under a uniform Flat Allotment Scheme, ensuring transparent and priority-based housing allocation.

Union Minister Patil praised the initiative, noting that modern housing in prime areas like Piplod will motivate police personnel. “Both soldiers guarding borders and police ensuring internal security wear the same khaki. Providing them better living conditions is our responsibility,” he said, encouraging personnel to plan for their own homes in the future.

Anupam Singh Gahlaut, Police Commissioner of Surat, said the new facilities — including basement parking, gas pipelines, library and mounted riding club — will greatly benefit police families and help children prepare for competitive exams. He also announced welfare loans ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh for marriage, education, medical treatment and home repairs.
