Drunk Driver Wrecks Havoc in Surat, Killing Elderly Woman and Injuring Child

Surat : In a horrific incident, an elderly woman was killed and an eight-year-old child critically injured after a car driven by a drunk driver rampaged through Sarthana Jakat Naka. The driver, Jitendra Malaviya, has been arrested for reckless driving and causing death on Wednesday.

According to police reports, Malviya, a graphic designer from Mota Varachha, was driving under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his vehicle and struck an auto rickshaw, a motorcycle, and three pedestrians. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the intersection.

The footage shows the car careening into the auto rickshaw, throwing 65-year-old Gouriben Jivaraj Dholakia in the air. Dholakia, who resided near the accident site, succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Eight-year-old Bahu Ravji Rajputia, who was walking nearby, was also struck by the car and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) run SMIMER hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car was traveling at a high speed when it collided with the vehicles and pedestrians. Bahu’s family revealed that he was walking with another child when the car hit him, flinging him several feet and causing serious bodily harm.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and apprehended Malaviya. Empty liquor bottles and glasses were found inside the car, confirming eyewitness accounts of his intoxication.  Malviya reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol with a friend before attempting to drop him off.  A police investigation is currently underway.
