DAMAN: Stepping up its offensive against the illegal drug trade, the UT Police of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu has destroyed 94.276 kg of seized narcotic substances and attached property worth around ₹88 lakh belonging to a habitual offender.
The action covers multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and is aimed at disrupting both the supply networks and financial gains of drug traffickers.
Police destroyed 75.654 kg of ganja and other narcotic substances linked to 22 NDPS cases in DNH district. Another 18.620 kg connected to five cases in Daman district was also disposed of following completion of all required legal procedures.
Officials said the seized contraband was destroyed only after verification that it was no longer required as evidence or for any pending judicial proceedings.
The police have simultaneously intensified financial action against habitual offenders. In DNH district, property worth approximately ₹88 lakh belonging to a repeat offender involved in narcotic activities has been seized or attached in accordance with law.
The UT Police said the action reflects its “multi-pronged approach” combining strict enforcement, prevention and financial investigation to dismantle drug networks.
Authorities stressed that the disposal of seized narcotics would prevent their misuse or diversion, while asset attachment would strike at the economic interests of those involved in the illegal trade.
The police said the crackdown would continue with greater focus on trafficking, possession and distribution of narcotic substances.
“Strict enforcement, prevention and public awareness” will remain central to the UT’s efforts to build a safer and drug-free society, officials said.
