Surat (Gujarat) [India], October 22 : A young lad in the diamond city has made it to the national aquatic championship to be held in Bengaluru from October 26 to October 29.
Dishant Mehta, a student of LP Savani high school has been trained by an aquatic sports coach—Vinod Sarang and Urvashi Sarang. Dishant participated in various state-level competitions organized by the Gujarat Aquatic Association and won two gold medals, two silver medals, and a bronze medal.
Sources said that Dishant was selected for the national aquatic championship by the Gujarat Aquatic Association (GAA) along with two other aquatic swimmers from the Surat district namely Anshul Kothari and Kalyani Saxena.
The aquatic championships in the country were suspended since 2020 due to the Covid-19 situation. However, the Swimming Federation of India planned out the national aquatic championship in October-2021.
The senior national aquatic championships are scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from October 26-29 while the sub-junior and the junior nationals meet will be held in the same city from October 19-23. If all the swimming events are scheduled at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, diving and water polo will be held at Kensington Swimming Pool and Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre respectively.
